Waihi Beach

Waihi Beach stretches from Orokawa Bay in the north to Bowentown and nearby Athenree. The coastal belt is most picturesque with walkways, parks and scenic sights. Waihi Beach offers nine km of sweeping white sand, and this is one of the nicest and safest surf beaches in the country.

The added attractions of Tauranga Harbour, the ocean at the southern end of the beach by Bowentown, surfing, fishing, mini-golf, walks with amazing views, art and crafts, history, and plenty of summer entertainment sums it all up.

For boat enthusiasts, fishermen, water skiers, swimmers, kayakers and picnickers, the combination of beach and harbour provides an extraordinary playground.

Bowentown Headland contains several Maori pa, the most famous being Te Kura a Maia. Te Hoe and Otawhiwhi pa sites are also easily reached via a series of walking tracks. Waihi Beach has a small but modern shopping centre, and a range of excellent cafes and restaurants as well.
