Athenree Hot Pools
There are two natural, mineral pools within the complex. The larger pool is at 35C with an average depth of 1.3m and also has a shallow section for toddlers. The pools are fed from an underground aquifer 250 m deep - mineral water is pumped constantly through the pools and the volumes are replenished every 3 hours.

Karangahake Gorge
The Karangahake Gorge, between Waihi and Paeroa, was once the busiest and most lucrative gold mining area in New Zealand. Many of the old relics of the gold mining days are there to be admired still, and there is a diversity of walks, taking you through beautiful countryside, historic gold mining sites and mine tunnels.

Omokoroa - Ferry to Matakana
For decades, a ferry has linked Matakana Island with Omokoroa on the mainland. Today the ferry makes the return journey four times daily.  This long island forms the sand barrier between Tauranga Harbour and the South Pacific Ocean. Matakana Island has beautiful sheltered white sand beaches and is well worth as visit.
